Know Your Numbers!
Working out how much you drink isn’t always easy. Alcohol differs in what percentage it is; the measures we pour at home are larger than a standard pub measure so its easy to consume more units than what is recommended as the ‘safe’ amount.
The 'safe' number of units for men and women to consumer each week is different, and for men it is 21 units, and for women, 14 units. The examples below will give you an idea of what exactly a unit is
For example:
A standard can (440ml) of 9% beer = 4 unitsLarge glass (35ml) of 40% spirits = 1.5 units
Large glass (175ml) of 12% wine = 2 units
So:
4 cans/bottles of 9% beer/cider = 16 unitsBottle (700ml) of 40% spirits = 28 units
Bottle (750ml) of 12% wine = 9 units
