Eating For Vitality

Why is healthy eating and nutrition important?

According to the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), eating a balanced diet is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle, ensuring you are full of Vitality and able to perform at your best throughout the day. A balanced diet normally provides enough nutrients, such as calories, protein and vitamins, to keep you healthy.

The key to a healthy diet is BALANCE. If your diet is poor or not balanced and you are not getting enough nutrients you will eventually be MALNOURISHED and this will make you ill.

What should we be eating to stay healthy and full of Vitality?

The Food Standards Agency has developed the 'Eat well plate' which shows how much of what you eat should come from each food group. This includes everything you eat during the day, including snacks.

Generally, you should eat:

  • plenty of fruit and vegetables
  • plenty of bread, rice, potatoes, pasta and other starchy foods – choose wholegrain varieties whenever you can
  • some milk and dairy foods
  • some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein just a small amount of foods and drinks high in fat and/or sugar

If you would like more detailed information about what you and your family should eat, please contact Vitality to speak to a qualified nutrition professional.
